fatigued friday
exhausted!! That’s the right word to summarize today (well I mean yesterday, May 30th). I have to woke up quite early to go to Netherlands embassy [for the 4th and hopefully the final time]. My visa finally issued…so Europe here I come!!
After that I have to go to photo shoot session for cultural Tspray. It went quite well but I cannot deny that I am disappointed. The committee should have decide precisely the concept and the context of the scenes, and they should have told us, the artists, also. The session basically full of people directing us in a scene which concept was not yet clear. Exhausting.
I’m tired of people who pretend they were the art directors. Ideally, there should be one photographer and one director…or maybe just one photographer. And this is what happened: there was one official and the most skillful photographer, one person who took charge of almost everything and he seemed to be the one who had the clearest concept in mind, one person who acted like a 2nd photographer [even though his photos, well if I must say, are quite close to rubbish], and the same person who tried to take charge of everything and turns out that he just made us all go home much later.
Hopefully the committee will learn from today that there should be just one person who’s in charge for certain task. And he/she should [in other word: MUST] be competent.
Maybe this post is a little too harsh for the person whom I talked about. But trust me, the real situation was far worse if you were in there.
art trip
Yesterday was exhausting yet fabulous day!
First I went to Netherlands embassy to collect my visa and turns out that my visa will be issued this afternoon…which I cannot make it because I have French quiz
.
After that Nathan brought me to museums! When was the last time I went to museum before yesterday? It’s been sooooo long… First we went to National Museum of Singapore. The older building part mainly contains historical items of Singapore where the newer building part contains more modern artworks. The first thing I saw was a pink David. Okay I don’t know the real title for the artwork but it’s a pink David for me. You know the famous David sculpture by Michelangelo? Basically this pinky is the replica, using fiberglass, then covered with pink fabric.

At first I thought it was a horrible color…but then it seems okay to me
There are also historical items regarding food, fashion, film, and photos of people from the past. The food room was full of spice scents! Hate it
. In the photography room has an oldies camera inside. Wew, never seen the real one…

The newer building part has interesting artworks too, like this one: a magnetic gray board and everyday utensils (contains magnet too) so you can put them on the board

Next destination is Singapore Art Museum. This contains mainly paintings. Yesterday Alberto Giacometti and Xu Beihong were the artists whose arts are displayed. I cannot understand nor really enjoy Giacometti’s sketches and sculptures, but I really like Xu’s paintings. He used traditional chinese style, with oils and chinese ink.

After that we went to Bras Basah, to the 2nd hand book store. Yesterday was the first time I went to the book store. Well you never know what you’ll gonna find. I bought LOTR: Return of the King book, similar type to the two previous books I owned in Jakarta. The condition is quite okay. Only S$9.50 with even additional discount of 25%. I will definitely come back. Just wish me luck on finding the way there
Then…Orchard again. Wew I barely had energy left, so we took a bus to Sommerset, walk to Ngee Ann basement to eat, then to HMV, as always. This time I was so tired I didn’t even have interests to look at the CDs. I just want to sit. And because of that, we took 174 bus to Boon Lay. I’ve been wanting to try it quite a long time, and it’s better than MRT sometimes. Only about 15 minutes difference, and at least you will have a seat. It cost about one dollar something, quite the same by MRT from Orchard. Next time maybe I will do it again
“Astrid” and “Amelia”
have you ever tried to search your name in wikipedia? Especially if you’re curious enough and have too many free time…like I did…haha…
[All facts and names are from wikipedia]
Anyway, my mom gave me a name “Astrid” after an Indonesian professor in politic studies, Prof. Dr. Astrid Susanto. She wanted me to be a professor…hmm if I can fulfill that…
due to my just-slightly-above-average brain. I hope that she didn’t want me to be in politic…
I always thought that ‘Astrid’ was originally a Belgian queen’s name. But it’s much more than that
Astrid, Estrid, Æstriðr or Ástríðr is a given name of North Germanic origin. It comes from Old Norse Ásfríðr (Divine Beauty), from áss (god) + fríðr (beautiful).
I like that! Astrid = Divine beauty
Many members of the European royal families use the name Astrid. They are:
- Queen Astrid (Astrid Eiriksdottir) [Norway], daughter of Eirik Bjodaskalle and mother of Olav Tryggvason (Olaf I of Norway) who ruled Norway from 995-1000 and was known for converting Norwegian Vikings to Christianity.
- Estrid (or Astrid) of the Obotrites [Sweden] (ca. 979 – 1035), was a Swedish queen consort, married to Olof Skötkonung, the King of Sweden, ca. 1000, and mother of king Anund Jacob of Sweden.
- Estrid Margarete Svendsdatter [Denmark] was a princess and sister of Cnut.
- Astrid, Queen of the Belgians (born Princess Astrid Sofia Lovisa Thyra of Sweden) (November 17, 1905 – August 29, 1935) was the Queen consort of Léopold III of the Belgians. Her conduct, and her tragic early death, made her the most popular Queen in the history of Belgium. The town of Astrida (now Butare) in Belgium’s Ruanda-Urundi colony was named after Queen Astrid.
- Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner [Norway] (Astrid Maud Ingeborg, born 12 February 1932) is the second daughter of King Olav V of Norway (1903–1991) and his wife, Princess Märtha of Sweden (1901–1954). A 580 000 km² area in Antarctica is named Princess Astrid Coast in her honour.
- Princess Astrid of Belgium, Archduchess of Austria-Este, Duchess of Modena, Princess Imperial of Austria, Princess Royal of Hungary and Bohemia (Astrid Joséphine-Charlotte Fabrizia Elisabeth Paola Maria), styled Her Imperial and Royal Highness Princess Astrid, (born June 5, 1962) is a daughter and second child of King Albert II and his wife Queen Paola of Belgium. Astrid married Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este, the head of the Ducal House of Este, on 22 September 1984 at Brussels. Her husband was created Prince of Belgium by Royal Decree of November 10, 1995.
And of course there are other famous Astrids in the world, such as:
- Astrid Anna Emilia Lindgren, née Ericsson, November 14, 1907 – January 28, 2002) was a Swedishchildren’s book author and screenwriter, whose many titles were translated into 85 languages and published in more than 100 countries. She has sold roughly 145 million copies worldwide. Today, she is most remembered for writing the Pippi Longstocking books, as well as Karlsson-on-the-Roof book series.
- An asteroid is named 1128 Astrid. It is a main belt asteroid orbiting the Sun. Approximately 35 kilometers in diameter, it makes a revolution around the Sun once every 5 years. It was discovered by Eugène Joseph Delporte at Uccle, Belgium on March 10, 1929. It was named for H.M. Astrid, Queen of the Belgians. Its provisional designation was 1929 EB.
- Astrid Carolina Herrera Irrazábal (born Caracas, Venezuela, 23 June 1963) is a Venezuelan telenovela Icon and sex-symbol. She won the 1984 Miss World contest, representing Venezuela. She became the third woman from Venezuela to win the title. The pageant was held in London, United Kingdom.
My middle name, “Amelia”, however is much more popular. My parents gave me that name after my birth month, May. In bahasa, it is spelled Mei. So “Amelia” has “Mei” inside it. “Mei” also a Chinese word for ‘pretty’ ![]()
Amelia is a female given name. It is derived from the Germanic word amal meaning “work”, and means “industrious” and “fertile”.
Some famous Amelias:
- Saint Amalberga of Maubeuge (also Amalburga, Amalia, or Amelia of Lobbes or Binche) was a Lotharingian saint who lived in the 7th century.
- Amelia Mary Earhart (pronounced /ˈɛərhɑrt/ “AIR-hart”; 24 July 1897 – missing 2 July 1937, declared dead 5 January 1939) was a noted American aviation pioneer, author and women’s rightsadvocate. Earhart was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, which she was awarded as the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences, and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island . Fascination with her life, career and disappearance continues to this day.
- Marco Amelia, Cavaliere Ufficiale OMRI, (born April 2, 1982 in Frascati, Rome) is a World Cup-winning football goalkeeper, who currently plays for Italian Serie A club A.S. Livorno Calcio and the Italian national team.
- Amelia Vega (born November 7, 1984 in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago, Dominican Republic) became the first Dominican woman to be named Miss Universe, in 2003. At the age of 18, she was the youngest winner since 1994.
“Amelia” is not only used for one’s first name…it’s also a name for a city, a village, a birth defect, an island, etc
- Amelia is a city and commune in the province of Terni (southeast Umbria, in central Italy), near the Tiber river, and the capital of the province of Terni. The city is approximately 93 kilometers from Perugia, 8 km north of Narni and approx 15.2 km from Orte. It is about 100 km from Rome.
- Amelia City is an unincorporated community in Nassau County, Florida, United States. It is located in the southern half of Amelia Island, on A1A near the Amelia River.
- Amelia Island is one of the southernmost of the Sea Islands, a chain of barrier islands that stretches along the east coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida.
- Amelia Cove is a Canadian hamlet in the St. Barbe District of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Amelia is a village in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The name Amelia was adopted in honor of Amelia Bowdoin, a well known and popular tollgate operator on the Ohio Turnpike.
- Amelia (from Greek α = “none” plus μέλος (plural μέλεα) = “limb”) is the birth defect of lacking one or more limbs. It can also result in a shrunken or deformed limb. For example, a child might be born without an elbow or forearm.
- The Amelia was a brig of 90 tons and was under the command of Samuel Shaw. The ship departed Sydney, Australia sometime between 8 and 17 January 1816 on its way to Java and Canton, China. It was never heard of again.
Quite interesting, right? So how about YOUR name?
7 years earlier, 7 years later
7 years earlier, I was…umm, 12. It was the time when I graduated from primary school. It was so exciting, because, well, finally I was allowed to left the school after 6 years. Junior high school seemed so cool at that time…hahaha…
It was the time when maybe, I will never see my friends again. We will separate, entering different junior highs. Mobile phones were not so popular, and 12-year-old kids usually didn’t have one. We were still so ‘gaptek’ about internet…was there anyone of us who has an email? Well, we were simply lose contacts with everyone, except those who went to the same junior high.
6 years later, some of us decided to meet in Jakarta, right before our university years come. Before everybody gone outside the city. It was like, maybe 30 of us? Everyone still have the same face
…I still recognize most of them…take a look:

7 years later, when we already in Singapore, who would have thought that we ever meet again? Well it happened yesterday when me, Anton, Steffi, and Vina met
. I never hang out with the girls during my primary school years, but we talked a lot yesterday, about the past and what we do now. I enjoyed every moment of it, even though what we do is simply chat, chat, acting like tourists by taking photos, chat again, being autistic (okay it’s just me
), and watching Indiana Jones.
Although I had to leave earlier to catch MRT (and ended up I missed the last bus and took taxi from Boon Lay), I had fun last night. I think it was cool, to look back 7 years ago, remembering the memories. Then look at what we are now. Seven years is just a bit of our years. The question is, will we still maintain this connection? Will we still remember each other at someone’s wedding? Hmm I’d like to find out

P.S: more photos here
brilliant Ronaldo, crying John Terry, and MU got the double
What a final for CL 2008! Although Liverpool didn’t make the final, I always excited to watch a Champions League final. It’s like the world cup for football clubs (okay it’s only for European clubs but we all know that the best clubs are in Europe, right?).
This year’s final consists of all English clubs: Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC. As for me, I have sentiments for Chelsea, so of course I support MU. Because both teams are not my team, I can watch the match and enjoy it, without worries.
Stephen, Stiffen, and Adith planned to watch the game at block 32, since block 1 is already locked. They already ‘booked’ the room with Herry by playing hearts since 1.30am. Me and Nathan joined then. I enjoy banana prata from Ah Fang which Stephen brought for me [you have to try that banana prata...it's delicious!!]
.
The ESPN coverage was cool, esp the pre-match. It’s been a long time since I watch football match from ESPN. Usually I just stream from a Chinese TV (CCTV 5), which is I only can enjoy the visual but not the audio
. The match kicked off punctually. At first, both teams still ‘cool’ and did not make much attempts for goal. But as the time goes, they improved the game and create chances. Petr Cech looks strong and steady in his post. On the contrary, Edwin van der Sar is kinda cranky. Yeah but I know he’s a great keeper, although older.
Minute 26th, Paul Scholes & Wes Brown made a brilliant assist for Ronaldo, who headed the ball to goal. Nice job! The tense gets higher and the game gets dirty, as always when you have divers such as that Drogba. [yeah I have a little bit more sentiments on him...
]. Frank Lampard then equalized on the 45th minute, just moments before half time. Actually he did it also because van der Sar got slipped. The ball was so close from van der Sar’s hand. Too bad…too bad…
The 2nd half was not as interesting as the first one, at least for me, because I almost fell asleep. The score did not change until the final whistle blew. That means they have to play extra time. The extra time was quite interesting, at least I didn’t feel sleepy. Chances were made, tackles were done, and maybe some wounds were made also. That stupid diver Drogba got a red card just moments before the extra time ended. For this one, I really mean it when I say he was stupid. He got the red card not by doing dangerous tackle to protect his team or whatever, but he got it by slapping an opponent (that cute Nemanja Vidic).
So, as I predicted, the champion should be decided by penalty shout out. Both teams looked pessimist. Stephen told me that both the keepers are not a penalty-stopper type. Even Petr Cech is probably the best keeper now, but he’s kinda stupid when it comes to penalties. Wew. I didn’t know that. Well, I still support MU, but I hope Cech will make a brilliant save. I always like him [because he's cute
].
So this is the result for the penalties:
PENALTY SHOOT-OUT
TEVEZ SCORES Man Utd 1-0 Chelsea
BALLACK SCORES Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea
CARRICK SCORES Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
BELLETTI SCORES Man Utd 2-2 Chelsea
RONALDO MISSES Man Utd 2-2 Chelsea [as we predicted before. But then, he was brilliant, and MU won that night...so who cares?]
LAMPARD SCORES Man Utd 2-3 Chelsea
HARGREAVES SCORES Man Utd 3-3 Chelsea
A COLE SCORES Man Utd 3-4 Chelsea
NANI SCORES Man Utd 4-4 Chelsea
TERRY MISSES Man Utd 4-4 Chelsea [he slipped. Poor John...]
ANDERSON SCORES Man Utd 5-4 Chelsea
KALOU SCORES Man Utd 5-5 Chelsea
GIGGS SCORES Man Utd 6-5 Chelsea
ANELKA MISSES Man Utd 6-5 Chelsea [not his fault, for me. Van der Sar made a brilliant save...finally]
Man U got the double. Congrats!

Esplanade presents…Chris Botti!
Sekarang saatnya buat cerita saya
Tadi kelar kelas prancis jam 6 pm. Rada mepet sih soalnya kan konsernya mulai jam 7.30 pm.
Konsernya KEREN banget buat saya. Dan nggak lupa Billy Kilson si drummer yang kalo kata si Botti, “If he’s not on the drums, maybe he’s the slowest person I’ve ever seen in my life.” Memang jalannya pelan, tapi kalo dah di drumset jadi hiperaktif gitu…hahaha…sixtupletnya rapi abis…mati dahhhh…
Meskipun saya bukan orang jazz, tapi saya masih bisa menikmati tuh…Konser ini seperti memperlihatkan kepada saya the real beauty of the trumpet.
- Caruso
- Thousand Kisses Deep
- Hallelujah -nya Jeff Buckley
- Cinema Paradiso (my personal fave! Thanks for playing this song…almost like a birthday present
)
- My Funny Valentine (Miles Davis, lagu inspirasinya si Chris Botti)

Aku bersyukur atas keluarga
Aku bersyukur atas kesempatan belajar sampai kesini
I’m lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to have stayed where I have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

wah udah 3000!
Rada kaget pas ngeliat blog stats ternyata uda ada 3042 hits
. Kaget soalnya kan baru bikin ni blog 3 bulan kurang…dulu sih bikin ini cuma buat konsumsi pribadi aja…rada2 buat diary, soalnya males pake tulisan tangan dan diary tuh cukup penting buat seorang cewek, apalagi yang melankolis seperti saya. Trus dipikir-pikir kenapa nggak sekalian bikin blog aja. Memang nge-blog ada etikanya…nggak semua yang saya pikirkan bisa ditulis…nggak semua identitas orang bisa diungkapkan…tapi kelihatannya sih asik…jadi coba aja deh…eh malah ketagihan
.
Intinya, thanks buat temen2 yang meluangkan waktu buat baca & kasih komen. Really appreciate it…and I’ll keep blogging for sure

Straight to the point, I’m really disappointed in a person. I’ve known the person not very long, but he has a background which I knew that is okay. I’ve known many people from with that same background and they mostly okay. I expect quite the same with that person also.
At first, he was okay, maybe because he needed me to answer his curiosities. His questions were usually okay, asking about my experiences mostly. I was originally kind and friendly to him.
But then he used my friendliness to be lazy and used me to get all the technical information he needed. Oh come on! There’s a technology called internet, and he can search it in world wide web easily. Does he know google? I will answer if the questions are rational to be asked. Do you actually think that I will remember the long form I filled a year ago? That means I have to search it in the web for him. And okay, I’m not a very busy person, but I rather use my time to do something better. I’m not a living search engine!! He can search himself, and if there is a word he didn’t know, hello, there is a book called English dictionary!
The technical-question-which-actually-he-can-search-himself thing is not happen once. It happen many times, and I started to get annoyed. Another problem, he is also very kepo (read: kay-poh, a hokkien word). After this question, another question asked, and then another one, and another one…I just really lost my patience.
When I was in his place, asking to a person whom I need the informations, I respected the person a lot. I only asked about the experiences, social life, anything that I cannot find in the web. Even if I have to asked something technical, I will search myself once the person had give the “keyword”. If the person didn’t set ‘online’ status on msn, I won’t disturb him. Because I respect him.
I tried to hide my annoyance, but I’m not that kind of person who can hide the emotion well. My good friends know for sure that if I act kinda strange and defensive, that means I don’t like the person.
That annoying person also noticed that. But he blame me that I’m annoyed by my ex so I do the same to every men. What a jerk! Do not ever judge a person whom you don’t know, especially when you should RESPECT that person.
Of course, then I told him that it has no link between the way I do my ex and him. It’s because simply I don’t like him and he’s annoying. I told him straightforward. After that, I thought that I’m a little too harsh, so I decided to be a bit more friendly and understanding. I said that it’s because our personalities are very different so of course there are clashes. Maybe also because I’m a woman and he’s a boy.
And guess what he did? He said, “Of course we are different. You are the smart and diligent one. Also a scholar. Me? I have to pay my school fee. Mathematically, my parents have to pay more than 60 million rupiahs…blablabla…”
OH MY. What a JERK. I’m not damn proud and said to every people that I’m a scholar. I’m happy and I’m thankful for it. I only say if someone ask me. Only a jerk will blame a person for what he can’t get. And what the hell with the money thing? I don’t care what his parents have to pay. The only thing I care is if he still need informations from me then he better do it in more respectful way.
Moreover, he said I’m inconsistent and what I said “is f*ck shit”. Oh well, I can see clearly why he can’t get the scholarship. I’m sure the Dean of Admission got annoyed also. Too bad the university won’t kick him out.
