today is the concert day!

it’s past midnight…it’s already Feb 29th…

waaaaa….I’m so damn excited for today’s concert!! I hope I didn’t ruin my voice by eating fish & chips…and drink a lot of cold beverages…hehehe…

Hopefully we all memorized the 2nd Japanese song and will make no mistakes.

Hopefully we can gain all the energy and the excitement we need to make the show stunning and the audience can enjoy it as much as we are.

Hopefully we can blend with all the others and become one voice.

Hopefully we  can dance enthusiastically.

Hopefully the audience can get the message we sent.

Hopefully we can do our best.

For the choir members:

JIAYOU! We can do it!

I just hate to be alone…

…just like everybody, right?

Well today we got no choir practice, so we can rest and gain our energy for the day tomorrow. But then, there’s not much for me to do today [well yeah I still got 2 assignments but I really not in the mood]. Jeremy’s out for his guitar ensemble’s practice due to their upcoming concert in March 15th.

I’ve done everything that pops out in my mind. I cleaned the room, even mopped the bathroom also. I put my dirty clothes in washing machine. I took a nap.

But I’m alone.
I guess I miss him.
Or else, I miss the choir practice. I miss the people. I want to sing…
Argh…

Is it just me? Is it that I start to respect all I had if I can’t have them now?

Is it just me? Is it that I start to remember all my friends back then when I’m not busy with my friends now?

I guess there’s lot for me to learn about loneliness. Because as they said, loneliness is always looking for a friend.
There’s also a lot for me to learn about friendship. And how to keep it alive.

choir rehearsal for Cantemus 2008

today (well actually yesterday because I wrote this post after midnight) we got a half-full dressed rehearsal at the Victoria Concert Hall for our upcoming concert: Cantemus 2008 Viva Voce. And one thing I must say, it’s amazing to sing in such a great concert hall with great acoustic. I feel much more comfortable to let my voice out loud.

The first half was quite okay, I think, except for the second Japanese song, as usual. That was horrible. I hope in this two days we can improve a lot on that song.

According to Ms Lim & Mr Yong (our lovely conductors :p), our 2nd half performance had no energy. We didn’t show enough expressions and enough energy. So they order us to do the 2nd half again plus shouting to us all the time…but well, it did work sometimes…=)

For the slow songs, I also think that we all didn’t do good enough. Some of us were so plain, no expression. As we all know, you have to be extreme in the stage. Especially for those who dance. They need to show that they’re really passionate with their partners. Come on guys! Show your expression…

Yang Xiao was amazing for his solo, as usual. But our conductors & James said he also need much improvement in his walking. Well, I must say that he’s also not very expressive as a dance partner…haha…

Here are some photos taken by mike & renald during our rehearsal:

oh yeah!

The concert is TOMORROW!

GL audition for GTD-X

finally!! I’ve done the GL audition for GTD (Indonesian freshmen orientation camp)!

Well, I should say, I didn’t do my best. I was planning to sing “umbrella” with very hot movements. I start with a formal wear with high heels, then singing and open my outer clothes (I still got another layer of clothes inside). But yeah, I got nervous, so it wasn’t as hot as I planned. After that I dance and yell about how they should make me a GL.
I hope it wasn’t as bad as I think…-.-”

Now it’s time for the choir concert, formal lab report and the HP802 assignment! I’ve done a discussion with Steffanie about the assignment this evening. Hopefully I can do my part as quickly as possible.

The committee needs 10 female GLs, and so far, there only 10 girls applied. That makes the chance’s very high. But well, anything can happen. The main committee will announce the result maybe around midnight today. Hope for the best!

Good luck for all who also apply!

CL 05 video

Here is a youtube video of the dramatic Champions League 2005 final (highlights). It was the best match I’ve ever seen, won by the best club I’ve ever know.
The match is a legendary one. Liverpool went from 0-3 to 3-3 and finally won the cup.

After the match, I become more and more believe in the power of hope, spirit, and prayer. There’s nothing impossible. You just have to do it. Do it until the final whistle blows.

As Josh Groban said:

Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that’s playing
There’s no time to waste
There’s so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe

Enjoy the video!

about me

Hi there!

I think it’s already a bit to late for me to start a blog…but better late than never, huh?

“Livergirl” is the name I choose for my blog. Why? Well, I really in love with Liverpool FC, a famous football club in England. Watch their matches live is one of my dreams. I really like the way the club still standing tall with their supporters. I love how the liverpuldians shows their love and passion to the club, how they sing the anthem “You’ll never walk alone” all the time, in happy or in sad times.

Well let me introduce myself. My name is Astrid Amelia, a female of course. I am an Indonesian currently pursuing my engineering degree at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. This is my 2nd semester, and stress is my middle name…still thankful that it wasn’t “kiasu”…haha…

My family still live in Jakarta, so I stay at NTU dormitory. Quite nice, especially when you realize you could do anything you want because your parents are not around…hahaha…just joking…
I have quite a lot of friends, mostly because Indonesians at NTU at least know each other. Here we have hundreds of Indonesians, so sometimes when I hang out a lot with them I didn’t realize I wasn’t in Indonesia…and also because of that, I barely feel homesick.

January 7th, 2007

Since I was in junior high school (2001), I join the marching band in my school. It’s a well known band in my country, and already achieve quite a lot. The name is Putri Santa Ursula Marching Brass (PSUMB) [Putri = girl. The band is all-girls]. My first months there was a very tiring one, because we all trained physically. I’m not an athletic type, so I’m having quite hard times. But then when I become a senior, I join the percussion section, as I want. Furthermore, I join snare drum team. [Marching snare drum looks like the ordinary snare drum in the drum set, but bigger in size and different sound].

My life in marching brass was not a good one, I have to admit. It was very tiring all the time, and not all my teammates (at percussion) are good people. For example, I had one f**kin stupid senior who always think she’s the best player in the team. In fact, she’s the one who crash our tempo…what da ****?!

It’s getting slightly better in 2004. That year, we decided to compete in the national competition, Grand Prix Marching Band. It was very exciting since it’s my first time. But, the physical fatigue is getting worse since we have to walk and form displays while we playing all the instrument. (Fyi, my instument’s weigh at least 12kg…very heavy…). The senior I was talking about is getting more sh*t but it wasn’t a big problem. We were so excited!

When the day comes, the tension is unbelievable. All the students from the school gather as audience, singing and shouting our anthem. It was AMAZING! Definitely unforgettable. We got quite good result, 2nd place in school division. But unfortunately for us, the percussion line only got the 4th place. That means we didn’t get the trophy. Well, it should be okay…but the problem is, our head coach is a horn line person. He sometimes really angry with us, the percussion line, which, according to him, is a lazy yet useless section.

Then, it came back to normal marching band life, until 2006. That period of time, I became one of the section leaders, one of marching maneuvering staff (the one who responsible for the movement in the field), and a staff [it's like a main committee] in instrument & equipment division. Wew, that’s responsibility. As a maincomm, I have to keep track on every percussion instrument details. As a section leader, I have to help control the music of my section. It was absolutely exhausting…especially when it’s decided that we will compete again in January 2007…yay!

One more thing, at that time I was really busy taking course to prepare NTU entrance examination. There’s tryouts almost everyday and hours of lessons.

The grand prix days were 6th and 7th of January. Since Jan 5th, we already stay at the school all together. Well, it was very exciting, but also tiring especially for us the maincomms. We have to maintain the spirit, the mood of every member. At the same time, we have to help prepare everything for the day. For me that means the instrument maintenance. It was very stressful since one of a percussion member lost her sticks cover, and I tear one of the drum membranes accidentally. Oh man…that really push my nerve to it’s maximum point. But thank God, at the end everything were ok. We found the lost cover in one of the boxes and a very helpful parent bought another membrane.

Finally, SHOW TIME! Stress seems not done with us yet. One of our percussion member fell in the first song. Once again, thank God she’s really good. She got up quickly and keep playing while holding the pain in her foot. Unbelievable, and it pumped our spirit. It was a very emotional show for me and all the members in my badge, because it’s our last competition. We will never gonna feel the same atmosphere again.

Jan 7th, 2007. After all the judges deliberate, it’s time for the result show. As a maincomm, I have to attend the event in the field. If we won a trophy, one of us will go and receive it.
The tension was high. All of us from percussion section really really hope that we will get a trophy. Even if that’s the 3rd place. We really want to prove that we’re good.
We got several trophies that night, including the “Best Costume” trophy, which was really unpredictable.

Then it’s time to announce the percussion line music analysis.
All percussion member in the maincomms were absolutely nervous. At last, the screen shows the result, and WE GOT THE 2ND PLACE! Wow! We even never expect that! And the coolest thing is, my commander look at us in the back and order me to receive the trophy. OH MY GOD…that was an honour, definitely.

ilhambobbytheirgirlsm.jpgAll the percussion members in the audience shouting and crying happily. I cannot believe that the trophy is truly belong to us until the GPMB committee hand over the trophy to me. I kissed it, and lift the trophy happily.

That was absolutely an amazing moment.

Absolutely.

Definitely one of my istanbuls.

a recess which not-so-recess

Finally, it’s recess time in NTU!

A week with totally no lectures, no tutors. But, damn it, a week full of activities and assignments.

Just now I figure out that my art assignment is not to be submitted after recess…well thanks God…I totally have no idea about the art essay. After all, visual art is not my world. I like it, but cannot understand it. I took the subject just to fulfilling my prescribed elective requirements…:-)

So that left me with 2 assignments left: interview analyzing and a lab report. Hopefully I won’t get much difficulties in lab report. After all, I’ve done it last semester with a pretty good result.

The problem maybe is the interview analyzing. The assignment comes from the subject HP 802 : Working in 21st century. Judging from the subject, every Indonesian NTU students know that it’s a “geje” subject. Well it is…I really have no idea what’s going on in the class…but maybe it’s because we (me, Steffanie, Itin, Maria, and Cia) always chatting when the lecturer is teaching…also we usually lengthen our break time by going to McD or The Quad…or we just skip the lecture…hahaha…

Now that’s academic. I also join NTU CAC Choir, which will have its concert this FRIDAY! And it’s so damn hectic here. Everyday we will have hours of rehearsals…so tiring…huhuhuhu…

One more thing to do in this recess…
Every year, Indonesian NTU students always held an orientation for the new students (freshie). The event is called “Get Together Day” (GTD) . It’s always fun and really helpful for us to know each other better. As a freshie last year, I really love the event. I had so much fun and lots of new friends. So that’s why I really want to join the committee for next GTD. I really want to help the freshies to settle down to their new life at NTU.
And the committee I chose is…Group Leader! Well first, I personally don’t think it’s a good idea, because a GL must be very loud, very crazy, and very enthusiastic for they have to set the happy and crazy mood for the whole event. I’m not much a sanguine. I’m a melancholic person. But then I think a lot and talk to people, I realize that GL is not all about the craziness. GLs also have to be a good leader, managing all the freshies. So well, why don’t I give it a shot? :p

My audition will be at Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Hope this recess is not so bad as it seems…jiayou! ^^
